Real Salt Lake News Release
SANDY, Utah / NEW YORK (Tuesday, July 22, 2014) - Major League Soccer has announced that Real Salt Lake Homegrown Player DF Carlos Salcedo has been named to the 20-man roster for the inaugural Chipotle MLS Homegrown Game that will be played on Monday, August 4 at Providence Park in Portland, Oregon.
Salcedo joins FC Dallas MF Danny Garcia and Philadelphia Union MF Zach Pfeffer in replacing Montreal Impact's Karl W. Ouimette and Wandrille Lefevre, both of whom had to withdraw from the game due to the Impact's CONCACAF Champions League group match that has been scheduled for Tuesday, August 5, as well as Seattle Sounders FC defender DeAndre Yedlin, who has been named to the AT&T MLS All-Star team.
Salcedo has two appearances for RSL this year, coming on for the final 20 minutes of RSL's 3-3 draw at San Jose Earthquakes on March 15 and earning the start and going the full 90 in RSL's 1-1 draw at Columbus Crew on June 4. A product of the RSL-Arizona Academy, the second-year player made 18 appearances - 16 of which were starts - across all competitions in his rookie season in 2013. Salcedo earned his first call-up to the Mexican U-21's last April, which serves as a preparatory squad for Mexico's 2016 Olympic efforts. El Tri won the 2012 Olympic Games in London, beating Brazil 2-1 in the final to take home gold. The Guadalajara native most recently took part in the U-21's July camp, starting and playing a full 90 minutes in its matches against USL Pro's Richmond Kickers and NASL's San Antonio Scorpions.
Twenty of Major League Soccer's top Homegrown players will take on the Portland Timbers U-23s as part of the festivities leading up to the 2014 AT&T MLS All-Star Game. The game will kick off at 8:00 p.m. MT and will be streamed live on WatchESPN and MLSsoccer.com. Fans can secure free tickets to the game visiting Chipotle.com/Homegrown. Tickets will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis and quantities are limited.
Real Salt Lake returns to action this Thursday when it hosts Montreal Impact at 8:00 p.m. MT at Rio Tinto Stadium. Tickets to Thursday's RSL-Montreal contest can be purchased at the Rio Tinto Stadium box office, online at www.RealSaltLake.com/Tickets or over the phone at 801-727-2700.
