Real Monarchs News Release
SANDY, Utah (Tuesday, June 2, 2015) - Real Monarchs SLC returns to Rio Tinto Stadium Wednesday night for its only home match in June to face Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2. The team will be on the road for its following three matches of the month before hosting Sacramento Republic FC on July 1. Wednesday night is expected to be great weather for the match with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. MT. ESPN700's Bill Riley will be calling the match broadcast on RealMonarchs.com, ESPN700, Real Monarchs' YouTube page. The match will also be aired on KMYU TV at 11:00 p.m. that same evening continuing its broadcast of all Monarchs' home matches.
Real Monarchs (1-6-4, 7 points, 12th West) are coming off a hard-fought match on Saturday night where it faced the defending USL champions Sacramento Republic at Bonney Field and earned a point. FW Max Rauhofer put the club up early in the first half after MF Ricardo Velazco was fouled in the box and the ref pointed to the spot. GK Eric Osswald saved the Monarchs a much-needed point when he stopped a penalty kick that was awarded to the Republic in the 35th minute. Right before second half stoppage time DF Emilio Orozco received his second yellow and was dismissed. The team fought hard for the final 7 minutes of play and did well to grind out the result after allowing late goals in a recent string of matches.
Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 (3-4-3, 12 points, 9th West) earned back-to-back wins, defeating Real Monarchs in Vancouver on May 24th and Arizona United SC on May 31st. The 'Caps outshot Arizona 19-6 in the match with United only testing Vancouver's keeper Paolo Tornaghi once on the night. Vancouver's first goal came three minutes into the second half when Carl Woszczynski fumbled his save and Caleb Clarke was there to clean it up. The 'Caps doubled their lead in the 79th minute when FW Brett Levis robbed the ball at midfield and dribbled past two defenders before slotting it home.

Monarchs History v Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2
Real Monarchs, like their parent club Real Salt Lake, struggled in Vancouver where it fell 2-1 on May 24th. In that match FW Caleb Clarke received the ball unmarked in the penalty box in the 21st minute, DF Justen Glad stretched out to block the shot but could only do enough to redirect the shot past GK Lalo Fernandez. Vancouver doubled their lead in the 33rd minute when FW Victor Blasco beat DF Danilo Acosta around the outside and his cutback pass found MF Ben McKendry open at the penalty spot where he easily slotted it by Fernandez for the game's second goal.
Real Monarchs pulled one back in 81st minute when FW Sebastian Saucedo earned a penalty kick. Captain Lucas Baldin took the spot kick, easily driving it past the keeper for the Monarchs' only goal on the night.
Will Monarchs Continue Record vs. Whitecaps Franchise?
Although Real Salt Lake fell to Vancouver Whitecaps FC 1-0 for the first time at Rio Tinto Stadium earlier this season, RSL holds an all-time home record of 3-1-3 against Vancouver. The Monarchs look to continue its franchise's strong run vs. the Canadian team Wednesday night.
Monarchs Prepare for Road-Heavy June
Wednesday's match will be Monarchs' one and only home match in June before they hit the road. The team first travels to Colorado Springs to face Switchbacks FC on June 13th, where they fell 5-2 in a snow-laden contest on March 17th. The Monarchs' final two matches in June come against two clubs it will face for the first time on the season; Seattle Sounders FC 2 on June 25 - just 8 days after S2 plays Real Salt Lake in the 4th round of the U.S. Open Cup in Sandy, UT - and Arizona United SC on June 27th.
