Reading Express News Release

Reading, PA - The Chicago Slaughter got the best of the Reading Express in a close game at Sears Centre. In a game that featured several lead changes, the Slaughter ended up on top 59-55.

The Reading Express appeared in control of the game after a strong third quarter, but the balance of power finally shifted back to the Slaughter after a late fourth-quarter interception. On the ensuing possession, Slaughter QB Ben Sankey found James Robinson in the end zone for the go-ahead score.

While the game was close, the Slaughter definitely put the Express to task. Chicago topped Reading in total yards 303-179. One bright spot continues to be the Express' rushing defense, again posting a solid game. The Express held the Slaughter to negative-five yards rushing. Containing Sankey proved to be a challenge. The Slaughter quarterback finished with 24 of 36 passing for 317 yards and six touchdowns. Sankey found Shatone Powers for ten of those completions. Powers ended with 180 yards and three touchdowns.

Despite the loss, Express fans might have something new to look forward to: Malleo to Taylor. Express QB Chris Malleo seemed to find a favorite target in first-year wideout Collin Taylor. The two connected on eight passes for 113 yards and four touchdowns. The late interception aside, Malleo had another impressive night behind center. He finished the night on 18 of 27 passing for 167 yards and six touchdown passes, while adding two rushing touchdowns and 42 total rushing yards. Veteran receiver Jeff Willis grabbed the other two touchdown passes.
