RazorSharks Win ABA Title

(Rochester, N.Y.)ŠTrailing for most of the game, the Rochester RazorSharks finally took the lead with 1:10 left in the American Basketball Association Championship Game yesterday and held on to defeat the Southern California Legends 117-114 to win the ABA playoff title in their inaugural season. Playoff Most Valuable Player Chris Carrawell had 23 points and seven rebounds and Demond Stewart notched 27 points to lead Rochester to the championship on their home court at The Blue Cross Arena in front of a franchise record 6,377 fans.

The RazorSharks finished the season, including playoffs, with a 30-4 record. Rochester defeated three teams in the playoffs to reach the championship game and clinched their first title as an expansion franchise in the ABA. The team averaged 3,231 fans per game to lead the ABA in attendance and only lost once in their last 23 games. Jerry Dupree led the Legends with 30 points as Southern California finished the season 23-6.

The RazorSharks become the third professional basketball franchise in Rochester sports history to win a title.
