Rochester RazorSharks News Release
Rochester, NY. The ABA Rochester RazorSharks will have their first taste of competition this summer as they field a team in the prestigious Surburban Coalition College/Pro Summer League in Washington, D.C. The summer league, featuring top NBA and college players, begins in July with each team playing ten games followed by playoffs.
Coming off two weekends of invitational player tryouts, the RazorSharks will assemble a team of ten players and travel to the Washington, D.C. area to play two games per weekend. The RazorSharks will play the weekends of July 16-17, July 23-24, August 6-7, August 13-14 and August 21-22. The league is based at the Oxon Hill High School with an on-campus arena seating over 3500 in Oxon Hill, Maryland.
The Washington, D.C. circuit is one of the top summer leagues in the United States, rivaled only by the Southern California Summer League for quality of play. Noted players include Delonte West (Boston Celtics), DeMarr Johnson (Denver Nuggets), Michael Sweetney (New York Knicks) and Gilbert Arenas and Jerrod Jeffries (Washington Wizards) along with 50 outstanding Division I college players.
"This is a great opportunity for the entire RazorSharks organization, especially the players," said Orest Hrywnak, RazorSharks Chief Operating Officer and General Manager. "We want to be able to position our team for competition as soon as we can and the D.C. summer league provides us with that chance."
The RazorSharks tip-off their inaugural season in the ABA in November and will play a regular season schedule of 36 games, with 18 home games. Rochester will play in the Northeast Division and will compete with Buffalo, NE Penn, Baltimore and Deleware as well as other teams. Season ticket deposits are now being accepted for the 2005-2006 campaign. Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
