Razorsharks Fall to 2-5
January 30, 2011 - Premier Basketball League (PBL)
Rochester RazorSharks News Release
At some point this Premier Basketball League season, the Rochester RazorSharks have to figure out a way to play through the first half of a game. Once again the Sharks spotted an opponent a large first half lead, falling at Halifax (6-2) to the Rainmen 111-97. Rochester has trailed in six of their seven games by double figures in the first half.
Rochester led just once in the contest at 5-2. The Sharks trailed by 12 at the quarter after giving up 37 points, and by 19 in the 2nd. A 3rd quarter rally brought Rochester to within eight on a Keith Friel 3-pointer at 77-69. But the Rainmen closed out the quarter on a 13-2 run to lead by 19, 90-71 after three and that was that.
Halifax dominated the inside game, outscoring Rochester 62-42 in the paint. The Rainmen hit 50 percent of their shots and went to the free throw line ten more times.
Eric Walton scored a team high 17 with 10 rebounds for Rochester. Jerice Crouch added 14, all of them in the second half. Keith Friel added 12 points shooting 4 of 8 from 3-point range.
PBL scoring champion Mike Williams, who practiced just twice with the RazorSharks after coming over in the Vermont dispersal draft, scored just 7 points on 1 for 5 shooting. Williams averaged 20.8 in seven games with the Frost Heaves.
Mike Mercer scored 22 for Halifax. Marshall Brown added 21. Taliek Brown had 11 assists.
Rochester plays Saturday at defending champion Lawton-Fort Sill. The Cavalry (6-1) lost for the first time this year Sunday, falling to Quebec 97-88.
