March 22, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Rochester RazorSharks News Release

(Rochester, New York)...The Rochester RazorSharks ended their 2006-2007 American Basketball Association season today as the confusion in the playoff structure prohibited the defending champions from participating in any games.

The Rochester RazorSharks have ended their association with the ABA and will begin play next fall in a new professional basketball league that will begin in markets across the United States and Canada. All markets and teams will be able to support high-level professional basketball at affordable prices. The new league will be introduced to the sports world in the coming weeks.

"This move was necessary to guarantee the viability of the Rochester RazorSharks franchise in the near future," said RazorSharks Owner and General Manager Orest Hrywnak. "The new league will be the top shelf minor league basketball circuit in North America and I am proud that Rochester will be a part of it."

The new league intends to recruit the best non-National Basketball Association players in the world but will primarily serve as a showcase for the "stars of tomorrow". The league will also create top of the line branding and national corporate sponsorship support as well as progressive television, internet and radio awareness.

The RazorSharks finished the regular season with a 24-6 record after winning the ABA title in 2005-2006. Overall the RazorSharks sported a 54-10 record in the ABA and averaged over 4,000 fans per game at The Blue Cross Arena, leading all of minor league basketball in attendance.

Fans who are holding on to their tickets for the scheduled March 18 playoff game vs. Wilmington can refund their ticket at the orginal TicketMaster location that they purchased at, including the Blue Cross Arena Box Office, via phone at 585-232-1900 or on the internet at www.ticketmaster.com. RazorSharks season ticket holders will have the option to roll over their two playoff tickets to next season in the new league.

"As we reflect on the RazorSharks success the past two seasons, I want to thank Head Coach Rod Baker, all of the players and especially our fans who supported us", said Orest Hrywnak.. "Today is a new beginning for the RazorSharks, and we expect Coach Baker and our players to bring home the very first league championship next spring."

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
