Rayz Announce October Promotions

October 3, 2003 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Corpus Christi IceRays News Release

Corpus Christi, Texas: October 3, 2003 – The Corpus Christi Rayz have released the promotional schedule for their five-game, season opening home stand, Rayz General Manager/Senior Vice President Pat Dunn announced today. The Rayz will conduct promotional events, including theme nights and giveaways, in each of the first five games of the season.

The October promotions schedule is highlighted by the Saturday, October 18 match-up with the Rayz' division rivals, the Laredo Bucks, in the Rayz first ever "White Out" game. All Rayz fans in attendance are encouraged to wear white tops in a collaborative effort that will have the Rayz team and crowd "white out" the Bucks with a flurry of goals. Fans in attendance will receive white Rayz Thunderstixx sponsored by Univision and will be entertained by sports mascot extraordinaire, Jumping Jack. Jumping Jack will perform a bevy of acrobatic stunts on the ice that promise to leave Rayz fans in amazement. In addition, the first 2,000 fans in attendance will also receive the first in a series of Caller Times Player Photos. Each Saturday night home game this season will feature a player photograph of one of the Rayz players. The first picture will be of captain/assistant coach, Ken Richardson.

Not to be overshadowed are four other games in October featuring plenty of events to keep Rayz fans smiling all night. The first game of the season will be the Central Hockey League's opening night game when the Rayz host the New Mexico Scorpions on Thursday, October 16. The first and only CHL game on the night of the 16th will feature the distribution of the Roberson EMS 2003-04 Corpus Christi Rayz magnet schedules and Rayz tattoos as fans enter. Fans will also witness the introduction of the revamped Rayz mascot, Sugar Ray, in addition to the Rayz Opening Night Ceremonies. If fans can't make the game on the October 16, they'll have a second chance to collect this year's Roberson EMS magnet schedules on October 23, when they Rayz take on the San Angelo Saints.

The Rayz face off with the Laredo Bucks for the second time on October 25, and once again the Memorial Coliseum will be rocking as fans will receive Nextel Thunderstixx. The first 2,000 fans at the Coliseum will once again receive a Caller Times Player Photo. The featured player will be Rayz newcomer Dan Shermerhorn.

Rounding out October will be the Rayz first regular season meeting against the expansion Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees on Thursday, October 30. The final game of the homestand will be the first of a home and home series with the Killer Bees, and first of seven home games against Rio Grande Valley. Fans in attendance will receive bee swatters as the Rayz look to whack their newest Southeast Division rivals. Rayz fans will have the opportunity to keep their bee swatters and return with them later in the season to support the Rayz against the Killer Bees. For all of the October promotions, fans are encouraged to arrive to the Memorial Coliseum early, as all giveaway items are of limited supply.

The Corpus Christi Rayz drop the puck on the 2003-04 Central Hockey League season on October 16, when they host the New Mexico Scorpions. Season tickets and group packages are currently available.
