Lubbock Cotton Kings News Release
LUBBOCK - The 2003-04 Lubbock Cotton Kings training camp is almost here. Kings players will report October 4 and begin on-ice workouts at the Coliseum Oct. 6.
"We will start will a full camp," said Cotton Kings Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kirk Tomlinson. "This is the biggest camp Lubbock has ever had. Twenty-eight report early October and nine men will leave."
The Kings have announced 15 signed players and only three spots remain for permanent positions.
"The players we have signed are not guaranteed a spot," said Tomlinson. "They have the spot now, but they have to work hard to keep it."
In essence, you have 28 guys fighting for 18 spots it should be fun to watch, but hard when decision time comes according to Tomlinson.
Many of the Cotton King faithful have asked out loud why the Kings haven't signed more fan-favorite players from last season.
"When a team hasn't made the playoffs in a few years, you need to see a change," said Tomlinson. "The status quo was not good enough and I want this team to be playoff-bound. I feel that the organization and the fans deserve nothing less."
Attached is the training camp schedule, tentative roster and CHL preseason schedule.
