Greeneville Astros News Release
Princeton, WV - The Greeneville Astros went ahead early, but the Princeton Rays took control of the game shortly thereafter on their way to a 7-1 win. The victory for the Rays evened the series at one game apiece.
The Astros took the initial lead in the game in the top of the first inning. It all started with a two-out single by first baseman Justin Garcia. Then, after Luis Payano drew a walk, shortstop Jonathan Arauz hit a groundball single into center field to score Garcia and give the Astros a 1-0 lead.
The Rays came back to score in each of the next three innings. Emilio Gustave hit a solo homer in the second to even the score. In the third, Blake Butera and Bobby Melley each had RBI singles to put the Rays on top. Then, in the fourth, Butera came back up and connected on a two-run single to extend the Rays lead to 5-1.
Two innings later, Butera struck again for his third consecutive at-bat with a RBI single. Then, in the seventh, Gustave led off with a triple and scored on a Rafelin Lorenzo single. That score pushed the Rays lead to 7-1 which became too much for the Astros to overcome.
Rays reliever Peter Brayer earned his first professional win after three shutout innings while striking out four.
The Astros (2-6) will have Ricardo Castro on the mound when they battle the Rays (5-3) in the rubber match of their three-game series on Friday night. Game time is set for 7:00pm.
The Astros are the Appalachian League affiliate of the Houston Astros. For more information, visit www.greenevilleastros.com or call (423) 638-0411.
