The lead didn't last long in the second frame as Jason Eddy put home a loose puck just 7sec after the puck dropped to tie the game at one goal apiece. The defending National Champions took the lead at 3:52 of the second as Brandon Platt picked up his third goal of the year in just ten games with the Tornado for a 2-1 lead and Texas never looked back. Brandon Hawkins scored his first goal of the night on a nice back-hander he sent by goaltender Hayden Stewart at 13:47 of period two with the lone assist to Scott Conway who hit Hawkins with the breakout pass. The leading scorer struck again as Andrew Paras sat in the box with 3:39 left in the second. Hawkins took a pass below the left wing circle and fired it by a sprawling Hayden Stewart to move the Texas lead to three goals. In the final period the Tornado would strike twice. First, Andrew Mayer at 10:10 of the third, and then Hawkins picked up the hat-trick with 7:40 left in the game to put Texas up 6-1, which ended up the final score in front of 2,324 fans. Stewart stopped 24 of 30 in the loss
GAME #22 - 12-29-12: Corpus Christi 1-4 Texas - The scoring started just 50 seconds into the game on a shot from the point that got deflected by Mitchell Mueller and past Ben Myers to give the Tornado a 1-0 lead. They moved out to a 2-0 lead as Andrew Mayer picked up his first of the night on a loose puck in front of the net that Mayer slid under the right leg pad of Myers at 11:17 of the first frame. In the second period Perry D'Arrisso split the lead in half just 55 seconds in. After forcing a turnover, D'Arrisso picked up the puck and fired it top shelf on Hunter Leisner decreasing the lead to 2-1. Mayer then struck again at 3:52 of the second. After blocking a shot, he walked in on a breakaway and beat Ben Myers increasing the lead back to two goals. In the third, Jason Eddy tacked on an empty net goal to seal the 4-1 win.
