Raudabaugh, Jones Earn Weekly League Awards
July 3, 2012 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Philadelphia Soul News Release
PHILADELPHIA (July 3, 2012) - The Arena Football League announced that two members of the Eastern Division Champion Philadelphia Soul (13-3) earned weekly honors for Week 17. Soul quarterback Dan Raudabaugh was named the Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Week while Soul wide receiver Tiger Jones took home AFL Playmaker of the Week after their great performances during the Soul's 83-79 victory June 29.
Raudabaugh earned Offensive Player of the Week honors after a record-breaking performance against the Storm where he set franchise single-game records with 415 passing yards and threw for 11 touchdowns, which is also the second-most in AFL history.
Raudabaugh's career day was capped off by a four-yard touchdown to receiver Donovan Morgan with 14 seconds left that proved to be the game-winning score for the Soul.
On the season, the National Guard MVP of the Year and All-Arena candidate completed 336-for-533 passes for 4,499 yards and 105 touchdowns in route to leading the Soul to the No. 1 seed in the 2012 American Conference playoffs.
"Dan has been a constant leader for this team from Day One and deserves all the individual accolades he receives," said Soul head coach Doug Plank.
Jones, who was named the 2011 Cutter's Receiver of the Year, had himself a career day as well as he caught 12 passes for 204 yards and six touchdowns. His yardage total broke a single-game franchise record and his touchdown total tied another (Chris Jackson, 2008).
In 2012, Jones has caught 133 passes for a franchise-record 2,010 yards and 47 touchdowns. Jones became the first player in League history to gain more than 2,000 yards receiving in back-to-back seasons and is certainly going to be a front-runner for First Team All-Arena, Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Year and Cutter's Receiver of the Year.
"Tiger has been the most explosive receiver in Arena Football this season," Plank said. "His work ethic is unmatched and it shows every time he steps on the field."
