Rattlers open 2005 season May 27 at Long Island

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Rattlers announced their 2005 Major League Lacrosse schedule today. The defending National Division champions will open the season on Friday, May 27th with a 7:30 p.m. contest against the Long Island Lizards.
The Rattlers (7-5) are coming off one of their most successful seasons in franchise history. Under the direction of rookie Head Coach B.J. O'Hara, Rochester won its first division title and advanced to the postseason for only the second time in four years. In the MLL Semifinals, the Rattlers lost 18-17 in overtime to the eventual champion Philadelphia Barrage.
The playoff run was led by rookie goalie Tillman Johnson, who finished the season with a 6-3 record and the lowest goals-against average (12.65) and save percentage (.640) in the MLL. On offense, the Rattlers were led by Casey and Ryan Powell. Ryan led the team with 59 points and finished third in the MLL in that category. Casey was tied for fourth in the league with 57 points and is second all-time in MLL history with 248 points.
Rochester begins the 2005 campaign with two straight road games before playing its home opener against the defending American Division champion Boston Cannons on Saturday, June 11th at 7:30 p.m.
Highlights of the schedule include a home-and-home series against the defending MLL champion Barrage. The series begins on Saturday, July 9th at home and ends on Thursday, July 14th in Philadelphia. Rochester also hosts its National Division rivals, the Baltimore Bayhawks, twice this season (June 18th and August 13th). In 2004, Rochester won the season series against Baltimore, 2-1, for the first time in team history. The games could feature Casey and Ryan Powell against their younger brother Mikey (Baltimore).
