Dallas Rattlers News Release
Atlanta, GA - The Dallas Rattlers won their second game of the season on Saturday night as they defeated the Atlanta Blaze by a score of 16-14 at Silverback Stadium. Dallas has improved to 2-7, while Atlanta drops to 5-5 on the season.
Dallas' offense was off and running at the beginning of the game, scoring six goals on seven shots in the opening 15 minutes of the contest. Despite giving up the first goal of the night, Dallas saw scores from Adam Osika, Bradley Voigt, and Donny Moss in less than three minutes to go up 3-1 on the Blaze. After a man-up goal from Atlanta's Shayne Jackson, Bryce Wasserman scored back-to-back goals in 1:14 to push Dallas ahead 5-2. Wasserman also scored again- his third of the game- with three seconds left in the frame to give himself a first-quarter hat trick. Of Dallas' six goals in the first, three came off of assists. Timmy Monahan (who was acquired by Dallas from Atlanta prior to the All-Star game last week), Wasserman, and Adam Osika each had one assist.
Dallas gave up its lead in the second quarter, as Atlanta scored six goals in the second half of the opening 30 minutes of play to come back in contention. Dallas only found the net twice in the second, with goals from Cody Radziewicz and Adam Osika (which was Osika's second of the night). Dallas only managed to put two shots on net- both of which were goals- and Atlanta put nine on net.
The Rattlers regained their offensive momentum in the third quarter, scoring six goals to Atlanta's two. Dallas had a five-goal scoring outburst thanks to scores from Brian Kormondy, Bryce Wasserman, Luke Wittenberg, Bradley Voigt, and Wasserman again. Wittenberg's goal was a four-pointer, and all three goals were assisted (starting with Wasserman's goal and ending with Voigt's: Jake Pulver, Ryan McNamara, and Craig Chick, respectively). Wasserman's first score of that streak was on the man down and from a tight angle.
Dallas and Atlanta combined for just four goals in the fourth quarter- and the teams split the goals evenly. Midfielder Zack Greer scored shorthanded and was assisted from Wasserman with 7:26 left to play. Wittenberg scored his second of the night just a few minutes later, also shorthanded.
Dallas held off a late offensive push from the Blaze to secure a two-goal margin victory.
Despite the victory, Dallas was heavily outnumbered in both faceoffs and groundballs. Dallas won just seven of a total of 33 faceoffs in the game, and of the 79 groundballs, the Rattlers only got 33. The Rattlers did only allow 17 turnovers to Atlanta's 23.
