Rasheed Headlines Defence Signings

Calgary Stampeders head coach/general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce the signing of linebackers Saleem Rasheed and Charleston Hughes and defensive lineman Funtaine Hunter.
Rasheed was a third-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers in 2002 and spent five seasons in the National Football League, including four with the Niners. Most recently, he was with the Houston Texans.
"He's an aggressive player and big hitter who has good range at the linebacker position," said Hufnagel. "His NFL experience and athleticism give him a chance to compete for the starting middle linebacker position. We've made some changes at linebacker this off-season and we'll have good competition across the board when we get to training camp."
Funtaine joined the Stamps for a spell last September during the period when CFL teams temporarily expanded their practice rosters. The Vanderbilt product impressed enough to get a full look at Calgary's training camp, which begins on June 1.
Hughes is a product of Northwood University who earned Division II first-team All-America honors from the American Football Coaches Association in 2006.
The Stampeders also have released defensive tackle Keron Williams and defensive back Sadrick Williams.
"We're letting Keron go because we want to get bigger on the interior of the defensive line," said Hufnagel. "With Sadrick, he has some personal matters he needs to clean up."
