Reading Express News Release
Reading, Pa. -The Reading Express added the first piece of its offensive backfield for 2012, signing speedster Rashad Cummings from North Greenville University. The Windermere, Fla., native is also expected to see time on special teams.
Cummings started 35 games during his four-year college career. He is the all-time leading rusher at North Greenville University, with over 3,700 yards on the ground. His play earned him the ICAA's Offensive Player of the Year award in 2008. In addition to role on offense, Cummings also contributed on special teams as a kick returner.
With a 40-yard dash time of 4.40 seconds, Cummings didn't go unnoticed by NFL scouts. After his college days were over, he spent time in a Buffalo Bills Mini Camp, as well as in several CFL camps.
"Rashad brings a different gear to the indoor game," said Mark Steinmeyer, head coach of the Reading Express. "Every coach will tell you that you can't teach speed, and Rashad definitely has that. He is a versatile, well-accomplished runner and we are excited to have him."
The Reading Express are one of the most established franchises in indoor football. In six full seasons, the team has amassed an overall record of 73-27 with five division championships, two conference titles and the 2009 AIFA National Championship. In 2011, Reading began play as a new member of the Indoor Football League and captured the league's Atlantic Division title. The team plays on The Reading Hospital Medical Group Field at Sovereign Center in Reading, Pa.
