River City Rascals News Release
JOLIET, Ill. -- The River City Rascals dropped their series finale to the Joliet Slammers on Thursday night, falling 3-1 despite out-hitting the Slammers in the game. The Rascals left twelve men stranded on base in the loss, including nine in scoring position. The win gave the Slammers the 2-1 series victory, and their first home series victory of the season.
The Slammers struck early, getting an RBI double from Chaz Meadows in the first inning. They made it 3-0 in the third, on RBI singles from Ridge Hoopii-Haslem and Riley Krane, one of three hits for Krane on the night. The Rascals scored their lone run in the top of the fourth, on a bases-loaded walk to Trevor Achenbach. The Rascals did not record a hit over the final three innings of the game.
Rascals starter Taylor Ahearn (1-1) recovered from a rocky start to go six innings, allowing three runs, of which two were earned. He walked one and struck out eight. Slammers starter Tyler Jandron (4-2) allowed just an unearned run in five innings, walking six and striking out five. The Slammers bullpen combined for four scoreless innings, with closer Ryan Koziol picking up his eleventh save to seal the win.
The Rascals (25-22) head back home for a three-game weekend set against the Evansville Otters beginning tomorrow night, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. CDT from CarShield Field. Micah Kaczor is expected to start the series opener on the mound.
