Rascals Complete Trade With Florence; Add Colton To Roster

O'Fallon, Mo. - The River City Rascals, presented by Progress West Healthcare, have acquired former Seattle Mariner farmhand, Chris Colton, from the Florence Freedom. The acquisition of Colton completes the six player deal earlier this offseason with Florence.

Colton, a 15th round selection in the 2001 MLB Draft by Seattle, spent last season with the Wichita Wingnuts of the American Association independent league. The Newnan, Georgia native hit .260 with seven home runs and 17 stolen bases last season with Wichita.

The 26-year-old Colton is no stranger to Rascals' manager Chad Parker as the two were together in 2007 with the Macon Music in the South Coast League. Colton joined the Music for the final 30 games and helped lead Macon to the championship, collecting four homers and hitting .299.

"Chris Colton is a professional in every sense of the word," praised Parker. "Chris is a middle of the order hitter that will steal bases and play defense as well as anyone in the league. He has remarkable character and leadership skills."

Colton spent five plus seasons in the Seattle farm system, including a 2007 stint with the High Desert Mavericks, the Mariners' high "A" affiliate. A product of Middle Georgia College, 2009 will mark Chris' eighth season in professional baseball in which he has hit at least 12 doubles every year and averages 76 RBI/162 games played.

Colton, traded earlier this week from Wichita to Florence, completes the deal that sent infielders Brad Hough and Jeff Miller along with pitcher Jonathan Miller to Florence for infielder Dorian Rojas and pitcher Brandon Hamlett.
