Tennessee Valley Raptors News Release

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Tennessee Valley Raptors have added a pair of impact players as they head into the second half of the United Indoor Football season.

Raptors coach Dick Adams has announced the signing of former Arizona Cardinals and Louisville wide receiver Zek Parker and the addition of Pat Billings, a former junior college All-American and ex-Birmingham Steeldogs defensive lineman.

"Pat has looked good in practice and he has a chance to make our pass rush a little better than it's been the last few games,'' Adams said. "He's a big plus for us right now.

"Parker is a very legitimate receiver with a great resume and an even better record of performance. He knows what it means to line up and be a pro. He's really grasped our philosophy here and hopefully we can get him in the lineup real quick."

The Raptors (2-6) host the Evansville Bluecats (5-4) in a United Indoor Football South Division matchup Saturday night at the Von Braun Center. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 and the first 1,500 women 21 and over will receive a pink Lady Raptors cap.

Parker, an Athens High graduate, signed a free agent contract with the Arizona Cardinals in 2002 following a standout career at Louisville and later played with Barcelona Dragons in NFL Europe.

A wide receiver/kick returner, Parker, at 5-foot-10, 198 pounds, was a second team All-Conference USA selection in 2000 and first team selection in 2001 after a senior season that saw him catch 55 passes for 757 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also returned 21 kicks for 483 yards, including a 91-yard TD, and held the Louisville record for all-purpose yards (6,311), was sixth in receiving yards (1,804) and eighth in career receptions (128) at the completion of his four-year career.

Billings, 6-1, 267, played at Stillman College after transferring from North East Community College in Mississippi where he was a Junior College All-American and Defensive Player of the Year. He prepped at Hazlewood High in Town Creek and lettered in football, basketball, baseball and track.
