Colorado Rapids News Release
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Friday, September 13, 2013) - The Colorado Rapids made three roster moves on Friday, removing defender Diego Calderón from the Disabled List, and adding Davy Armstrong and Kory Kindle to the Season Ending Injury list after recent surgeries. A deadline of today at 3 p.m. MT represented Roster Freeze Date in MLS, with teams no longer able to sign or trade players until after MLS Cup.
Calderón joined the Rapids in preseason and had started each of the team's first four games before suffering a knee injury while clearing a ball off the line in the March 23 match at the LA Galaxy. His right knee required microfracture surgery, but the Ecuadorian defender has recovered and recently taken part in a pair of Reserve matches. He is now on the active roster and available for selection.
Davy Armstrong, one of three Rapids Homegrown Players, suffered an ACL tear in his right knee while on loan with Phoenix FC of the USL Professional Division, and underwent surgery in late August. His recovery time is expected to be approximately six months. Kindle, the Rapids' second round pick in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft, underwent sports hernia surgery last week, and will miss approximately two to three months while recovering. Both Kindle and Armstrong have been added to the Season Ending Injury list, and will be unable to play in first team matches for the remainder of the 2013 season.
The Rapids take on FC Dallas this Saturday, September 14 at 7 p.m. at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in a match with massive playoff implications for both teams. The game is expected to be played as scheduled, and the Rapids will update fans throughout Friday and Saturday with information on driving routes and road closures in the area due to the recent flooding. Tickets for the match are available at the team website or by calling 303-825-GOAL.
