Colorado Rapids News Release
DENVER (Tuesday, February 6, 2007) - The Colorado Rapids announced today their complete 2007 Major League Soccer regular season schedule, a season in which the Rapids will bring the world's game to Colorado, at their brand-new stadium, Dick's Sporting Goods Park, considered the largest and most state of the art profession soccer complex in the world.
The Rapids launch the 2007 season as they kick off with the MLS season opener on April 7 vs. DC United at home live on ABC.
For the first time in league history all MLS games will be televised. The Rapids will be featured on national television 17 times this year, including: 1 game on ABC, 4 games on ESPN2, 4 games on Fox Soccer Channel, 2 games on HDNet, 5 games on Telefutura, and 1 game on Galavision. Altitude Sports and Entertainment will announce the Rapids' local broadcast schedule at a later date. In addition, fans will be able to watch the rest of the club's matches live via the MLS Direct Kick package.
Four times throughout the season the Rapids will be showcased on ESPN2 as a part of MLS Primetime Thursday. The two Thursday home dates are May 10 against Real Salt Lake and Aug. 16 when they host the New England Revolution. Colorado fans can watch their home team on ESPN2 twice in June, on the 7th at Houston and the 28th at DC.
Alongside many other important fixtures, Colorado has a key August stretch in which they host three games in 15 days, capped on Aug. 26 by former English National Team Captain David Beckham's first regular season appearance at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
Fans can also look forward to another huge international event coming in 2007 as the Sierra Mist MLS All-Star Game will also be coming to Colorado this year. Dick's Sporting Goods Park will host the game on July 19 at 7 p.m. MT as the MLS All-Stars take on world power Celtic FC of the Scottish Premier League.
The Rapids will defend their Rocky Mountain Cup championship title during their four games against Real Salt Lake, which are set for April 28 and Sept. 22 at Rice Eccles Stadium, May 10 at home and finishing with the final game of the season on Oct. 20 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
One of the biggest events on the calendar is the Rapids' 12 Annual 4th of July game, featuring Colorado's biggest and best fireworks show, which will move to the Rapids' new home of Dick's Sporting Goods Park this year. The Rapids will be hosting the Columbus Crew on July 4 this year at 7:30 p.m. MT, followed by the club's annual tradition of putting on the state's most explosive celebration of America's birthday, with plans for all-day festivities both inside the stadium and on the complex's 24 surrounding field complex and culminating with the biggest fireworks display in Colorado.
The defending MLS Champion Houston Dynamo come to Denver twice, May 5 and Aug. 11 and the Rapids return to Robertson Stadium, where they played in the 2006 Western Conference Championship, on June 7.
Single game tickets for the 2007 season will go on sale Saturday, March 10th at 10:00 a.m. Tickets will be available for purchase at the Dick's Sporting Goods Park box office, via phone by calling 303-727-3535, or online at www.ColoradoRapids.com. Details on single game pricing and ticket promotions will be available on or around February 13th.
