
Rangers Upend IceDiggers

Alpena - The Marquette Rangers three game weekend road trip started off on a positive note Thursday night at Northern Lights Arena in Alpena with a 2-1 win over the Alpena IceDiggers in North American Hockey League North Division play.
With the win, Marquette (12-13-4) has claimed a third-place tie in the division with the U.S. National Team Development Program with 28 points.
Alpena (12-9-2) remains in fourth place with 26 points on the season.
Marquette native Collin Saint-Onge opened the scoring at 17:55 of the first period with assists to Garrett Ladd and Mike Lennon to give the Rangers the lead after one period of play.
The Rangers would make it 2-0 in the second period when Scott Henegar scored from Kent Daavettila and James Gallagher at 16:56. Both Ranger goals were scored while the teams were skating five on five.
Marquette goaltender Kevin Kissaw's shutout bid was ruined late in the game when Alpena's Andy Yarber found the back of the net with 42 seconds remaining for what proved to be the final score.
Kissaw ended the night with 22 saves on 23 IceDigger shots, while his counterpart Nick Graves stopped 24 of 26 Rangers efforts on the night in a losing effort.
Marquette outshot Alpena 26-23 for the game..
