Rangers Unveil 2021-22 Remembrance Day Jersey
October 22, 2021 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Kitchener Rangers News Release
The Kitchener Rangers 16th annual Remembrance Day Ceremony and Jersey Auction, which raises funds for local military charities, is back!
Over the years, the Rangers pay tribute to those who have been a part of the Canadian Forces by wearing commemorative jerseys.
This year's edition will be worn on November 5th when the Flint Firebirds visit The Aud at 7:30pm. The game will also feature a special ceremony and puck drop.
The 2021-22 jersey is inspired by the Kitchener-Waterloo community and their ability to come together to support WWII efforts.
In June of 1940, a local Kitchener Citizen heard reports of an urgent need for modern tanks. The person who wished to remain anonymous walked into City Hall, placed a cheque for $100 on the mayor's desk, and said it was to be used to start a fund to buy a tank for the C.A.S.F.
The Kitchener-Waterloo Sales and Advertising Club took over the fund, added $1,000 and launched a community campaign. The Buy-A-Tank campaign raised $38,000 as of June 22nd and continued to climb. Word spread and inspired other communities such as Toronto to organize similar campaigns.
The front crest of the 2021 jersey features a tank inspired by the Ram Tanks that were used. The shoulders feature the Kitchener clock tower with WWII marking and the Kitchener Rangers shield.
Fans will place bids to purchase the special jerseys through a silent auction before and during the game. Doors open at 5:30pm. Visit the Subscriber's Lounge to place your bid. Complete bidding guidelines will be available at the auction.
All proceeds from the auction will benefit the 78th Fraser Highlanders Fort Conestoga Garrison and the Kitchener-Waterloo Poppy Fund through Rangers Reach.
