Rangers pound Otters

KITCHENER, Ont. - Kevin Henderson scored a goal and two assists to lead the Kitchener Rangers to an 8-1 win over the Erie Otters in an Ontario Hockey League game played tonight at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Complex.

Phil Varone, Adam Zemec, Victor Oreskovich, Nick Spaling, Brian Soso, Matt Pepe and Peter Tsimikalis netted the other Rangers goals. Kitchener won for the fifth straight time to improve to 20-9-0-2 on the season.

Josh Vatri netted the lone Otters goal. Erie lost for the third straight time to sink to 7-22-0-2.

The Rangers led 2-0 after one. The Otters scored in the opening four minutes of the second to climb to within one only to see the Rangers answer with five unanswered to take a 7-1 lead into the third.

Jonathan Laniel started for the Otters and allowed seven goals on 29 shots through two periods of play. Ryan Ludzik came off the bench for the third and stopped 12 of 13 sent in his direction.

The three stars of the game were all from the Rangers. Henderson was the first; Varone the second and goaltender John Murray (35 saves) the third.

The Otters wrap up weekend action tomorrow (Saturday) against the Kingston Frontenacs at 7:30 p.m. at the Tullio Arena. Tickets for the game are available at the Civic Center Box Office and all Erie-area TicketMaster locations.
