Rangers Host Firebirds for International Women's Day Game on Friday

Kitchener, ON - The Kitchener Rangers host the Flint Firebirds for the final time of the regular season on their International Women's Day game. A special pre-game ceremony will take place at 7 pm with the local U18 Team Canada Women's players Abbey Stonehouse and Caitlin Kraemer dropping the puck.

International Women's Day:

The Kitchener Rangers are hosting a special celebration for International Women's Day on March 8, featuring a ceremonial puck drop by Waterloo native Caitlin Kraemer and Blenheim, ON native Abby Stonehouse. Prior to the game, the Rangers have provided a unique opportunity for youth girls hockey players in the KW area. The team's Manager of Communications and Team Services, and former professional women's hockey player, Lindsay Eastwood will conduct a special practice session for aspiring players. This exclusive experience aims to inspire and empower young girls in the community while fostering a love for the game.

This Season:

The Rangers and Firebirds are heading into their fourth and final faceoff of the season. In these three games, the Rangers have a 2-1-0-0 record, losing the most recent and only game at The Aud on December 29th with a 5-3 final score. Rangers Trent Swick and Luke Ellinas found the back of the net, with Cameron Arquette also notching his first OHL career goal. Assists were contributed by Matthew Sop, Hunter Brzustewicz (Calgary Flames), Simon Motew, Cameron Reid, and Matheas Stark. Hunter Brzustewicz (Calgary Flames) is tied for the most points for a defenceman in the league with a 12-74-86 stat line. On Wednesday night Brzustewicz tied Jason Gladney for the most assists for a defenceman in a season in Rangers' history. Over his last 10 games, Brzustewicz has four goals and nine assists for 15 points, seven of which being multi-point games.

Man Advantage Mešár:

Roberto Mancini had a two-goal night earning the game's first star with assists going to Matthew Jenken and Connor Clattenburg. With 25 seconds remaining in overtime, Simon Slavicek became the overtime hero to win the game. Goaltender Nathan Day (Edmonton Oilers) grabbed the game's second star after 41 saves on 43 shots.

Firebirds to Watch:

Centreman Oliver Peer was acquired by the Firebirds on January 9th from Windsor in exchange for five draft selections. Peer sits atop six Firebirds leaderboards, with the most points (69), goals (32), assists (37), power play goals (6), and power play assists(14). Over the past five games, Peer has four points (1G, 3A).

Nolan Dann has the second most points for the Firebirds this season playing 57 games while recording 24 goals, and 37 assists. Dann registered two goals against the Rangers in the last meeting on December 29th. The Cambridge native has eight points (4G, 4A) over his last 10 games.
