Rangers Honoring Domestic Violence Awareness Month
October 25, 2006 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Marquette Rangers News Release
People attending the Celebrity Waiter dinner benefiting the Caring House and Battered Women's Shelter might not recognize a few of the guests. Jacob Hauswirth returns to the area he played hockey as a squirt, only returning as a 6'4" forward for the North American Hockey League's Marquette Rangers. Hauswirth played for the Iron River Hockey Association as a boy, but even then his potential was seen. He was two years too young for bantam, but when they were short players, they called upon Hauswirth.
When asked about his time with the IRHA, Hauswirth said he was just a kid, but he remembers playing two years outside before the community built the present rink that he played in for one year. He's excited to go back and see who he knows and remembers.
Hauswirth joined the Rangers from Ojibwa AAA. He has a positive attitude and willingness to do anything to assist his team to victory. His advice for young hockey players is to "work hard when you are given the time to improve your hockey skills and when you think you have what it takes to win, do it better the next time."
Nicholas Weight is one of the first to volunteer when it comes to helping in the community. "I'm always glad to get into the community and help out where I can. This is something I'm honored to be part of. Helping attract people to raise money for a charity of this magnitude is amazing and I'm excited to be a part of it."
Weight was a former competitor of Hauswirth in squirts, but now teamwork is what they do best. Weight a 6', 200 lb. forward, was formerly a Wisconsin Hockey Coaches Association Player of the Year finalist and was All-State his junior and Senior years of high school. He not only excels in hockey, he was an honor-roll student each year of high school.
Weight contributes a strong winning mentality and physical strength to the Rangers. He says kids should "go for what they want. I like the quote "life's a dream; live it," because that's exactly how I feel. Do what makes you happy and if someone tells you you're not good enough, try harder."
The third Ranger attending the benefit dinner is 6' forward, Dustin Partacz. Formerly playing for Neuqua Valley HS in his hometown of Naperville, Ill., Partacz is a senior at Marquette Senior High School. Partacz's size and speed make him a fierce competitor on-ice and an asset to the Rangers.
Partacz is excited to be attending the dinner because he is always looking to contribute where help is needed. "I have done hundreds of hours of volunteer work, but this is something special. Domestic Violence Awareness Month is something I think may be overlooked a little. I have been blessed to be where I am and I know there are people who aren't that lucky. I can use where I've gotten in my life so-far to help a cause that is really worthy; being able to give that back is something great to me."
Rangers will be at the benefit Monday Oct. 26, from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m (Eastern) at the Great Northern Steak and Buffet in Kingsford, MI. Rangers will be available for autographs and select apparel will be on hand.
