Wichita Falls Wildcats News Release
The College hockey season has just begun, and five former Wichita Falls players are already making an impact at the collegiate level, and each played a pivotal role for their respective teams this past weekend.
Kyle Kraemer, who served as the Wildcats team captain last season, committed to play collegiate hockey at Northeastern University. This season he has played in three games, notching a goal against Boston University and recording an assist this past weekend in the Huskies 2-2 tie against the tenth ranked team in the nation, Vermont.
Chris Ochoa, who was a major scoring threat for the Wildcats and led the team in goals last season, has gone on to play hockey for the University of Connecticut Huskies. This season he has seen a lot of ice time, and just this past weekend, Ochoa netted two goals against Army, and is among the team leader in points.
Kevin Huck, who played for the Wildcats in the 2004-2005 season and led the team in scoring with 78 points, and Matt Tyree, who played for the Rustlers, both have gone on to play for the collegiate program at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Huck scored a goal this past Friday, and added an assist in the game on Saturday, in which Tyree notched the game wining goal for the Mavericks.
Joe Van Culin was a defenseman for the Rustlers, and is currently playing for the Ferris State Bulldogs. This past weekend he recorded his first goal of the season in the Bulldogs 5-3 loss against Western Michigan.
Head Coach Brian Meisner was pleased to see his former players making a name for themselves at the next level, "It is great to see them achieve their dreams and contribute to their respective teams' successes. We have tremendous pride in our alumni and feel fortunate to have played a part in their development."
