Rangers Fall to Alpena

Marquette Rangers News Release
Marquette - The Marquette Rangers Junior A Hockey Team got another outstanding effort from goaltender Matt Brooker on Saturday night at Lakeview Arena, as the netminder turned away 34 of 36 Alpena IceDigger shots. But the night belonged to Alpena goaltender Nathan Pellegrino who stoned the Rangers in a furious rally at the end of regulation; and the IceDiggers held on for a hard fought 2-1 win.
"Give Alpena credit" said Rangers coach Randy Enders. "We had our chances, their goaltender was very, very good and they kept us from really getting any flow tonight. We fought hard, but it just seemed to be one of those nights where nothing was going to come easy. Rivalry games are like that."
"The disappointing thing for us was the lost cost us a chance to gain ground in the division" Enders added. Mark your calendar with today's date as both Mahoning Valley and St. Louis (the top two teams in the North) lost on the same night. That won't happen very often this season and it's too bad we couldn't take advantage of that tonight."
Alpena opened the scoring at 10:32 of the first period when Kerry Bence's wrister from the top of the left circle eluded Brookers' catching glove for a 1-0 first period Alpena lead.
The IceDiggers would get the eventual game winner on Erik Peterson's power play marker at 9:25 of period number two with line-mate Jimmy McCusker picking up the only assist on the play.
The lone Ranger goal was scored by Nic Weight at 11:18 of the second period with assists to James Gallagher and Nick Condon. The power play goal was Weight's second goal on the weekend with the man advantage.
Marquette will travel to Ann Arbor over Thanksgiving to battle the U.S. National Team Development Program U-17's who are coming off a split weekend with the St. Louis Bandits. Both games from The Ann Arbor Ice Cube will be available through B2 Networks via the teams website www.marquetterangers.com
