Rangers dismantle Otters

Peter Tsmikalis scored once and added three assists to lead the Kitchener Rangers to an 8-1 win over the Erie Otters in an Ontario Hockey League game played tonight in front of 4,462 at the Tullio Arena. Nick Spaling added a goal and two assists for the Rangers while Victor Oreskovich and Mike Duco each scored twice. Justin Azevedo and Adam Zamec rounded out the Kitchener scoring. The Rangers won for the seventh straight time to improve to 33-13-1-2 on the season. Nick Palmieri netted the lone Otters goal as they lost for the second straight time to drop to 12-34-1-2. The Rangers led 4-0 after one and 7-1 heading into the third. Kitchener out shot the Otters 51-27 in the game as Kevin Beech started and took the loss. Beech allowed four goals on 17 shots in the first before being replace by Jonathan Laniel to start the second. Laniel turned aside 30 of the 34 shots he faced. The three stars of the game were all from the Rangers. Tsmikalis was the first, Spaling the second and Duco the third.

The Otters head out onto the road for their next four games starting Thursday in Windsor against the Spitfires (7:30 p.m. start). Friday they are in Plymouth (7:05 p.m.), followed by a Saturday game in Saginaw (7:11). All three games can be heard live on True Oldies 1330 and on-line at www.ottershockey.com (presented by the James H. Cross Company) beginning with the pre-game show 15 minutes prior to the opening face-off. The next Otters home games take place February 10th and 11th when the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and the London Knights, respectively, visit the Tullio Arena. Tickets for the games are on sale now at all Erie-area TicketMaster locations as well as the Civic Center Box Office.
