Marquette Rangers News Release

Ann Arbor, Mich. - The Marquette Rangers Tier II Junior A hockey team made history Friday night at the Ice Cube in Ann Arbor by beating the U.S. National Team Development Program U-18 team 4-2.

Up until last night, Marquette had been 0-4 all time against the older group at the USNTDP.

The Rangers play the USNTDP U-17 squad 6 times each year over the course of the North American Hockey League season.

Marquette (9-10-3, 21 pts.) opened the scoring at 2:40 of the first period when Jim Gallagher scored his seventh goal of the season, this one on the power play with USA's Richie Crowley off for a hooking penalty. Chad Pietila assisted on what would be the only marker of the opening period.

Team USA would tie the game 59 seconds into the second period, but Marquette would answer on the first of two Collin Saint-Onge goals on the evening; for a lead the team would never relinquish. Garret Ladd and Aaron Pietila assisted on the goal at 10:47; another power play goal with USA's Tyler Amburgey off for cross-checking.

Marquette would go 2-6 on the power play on the evening, while Team USA finished the evening 2-3 with the man advantage.

Saint-Onge would register his second goal of the night, this one a shorthanded effort at 1:55 of the third period off of a feed from Garrett Ladd to push the lead to 3-1.

After Team USA scored to get within a goal, Ladd would ice it for Marquette at 14:44 on an even strength goal past USA goaltender Adam Murray. Gallagher assisted for his second point on the night and now leads the team in scoring with 19 points (7g 12a.)

Dan Sullivan picked up his third consecutive win in goal for Marquette, turning aside 37 of 39 Team USA shots on the evening. Murray stopped 23 of 27 Rangers shots on the night, dropping his record to 0-2-1 in NAHL North Division play.

With the win, Marquette is now tied for third place with the USNTDP in the North Division standings.

The Rangers and the USNTDP U-18 squad wrap up their two game series Saturday night at 7:05 at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube. All Rangers games are available via streaming video and audio through the teams' website www.marquetterangers.com.
