Rockford Rampage News Release

ROCKFORD, Ill. -- Rockford Rampage backup goalkeeper Ante Cop was named Major Indoor Soccer League Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Cop was honored for Sunday's performance, in which he saved 15 of 18 shots and allowed only six points in 60 minutes to lead Rockford past the host Milwaukee Wave, 7-6.

This was Cop's first MISL start in goal, and the fill-in came with less than 24 hours notice. Cop replaced normal starting goalkeeper Danny Waltman, who injured his knee during Saturday night's 10-7 win over Milwaukee at the MetroCentre and was unavailable for Sunday afternoon's match.

Cop and the Rampage completed a weekend sweep of the Wave, moving into a share of first place with the Baltimore Blast. Rockford's defense held Milwaukee to 13 points in two games.

Cop, who played less than 20 minutes in goal during one match in the 2008-2009 NISL season, played most of last season as a defender.

He becomes the second Rampage player to earn a weekly honor this season, with defender Fabinho garnering MISL Player of the Week on Nov. 30, 2009. Waltman was the MISL Goalkeeper of the Month for November.

Next up for the Rampage (5-4) is a 6:05 p.m. (CST) match on Saturday against the host Philadelphia KiXX (3-5) at the Liacouras Center. Rockford's next home match is at 7:05 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, against La RaZa de Monterrey at the MetroCentre.
