Rampage sign Arena legend Alvin Ashley
February 5, 2004 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Grand Rapids Rampage News Release
The Grand Rapids Rampage Arena Football team have announced the signing of wide receiver/defensive back Alvin Ashley - one of the all-time great two-way players in AFL history.
Ashley is the most experienced player on the roster in terms of AFL years and games played (113). Both Rampage QBs are very familiar with Ashley. He went to college and played on the 1996 Minnesota Fighting Pike with Jeff Loots and spent last season on the Carolina Cobras roster with Robert Hall.
In the AFL record books, Ashley is among the AFL all-time leaders in kickoff returns (4th), combined returns (4th), kickoff return yards (5th), combined return yards (5th), all-purpose yards (6th), receptions (7th), receiving TDs (9th), receiving yards (10th) and points scored (10th).
To make room for Ashley on the 24-man roster, the Rampage placed lineman Terry Grooms on injured reserve with a slightly torn calf that he suffered in Tuesday's practice.
This Sunday at 3pm, Grand Rapids will be in the Windy City to take on the Chicago Rush. The game will be televised live on WOOD-TV channel 8 locally with Dan Hicks and former Albany Firebirds QB Mike Pawlawski calling all the action.
Next Saturday, February 14, the Rampage will host the Colorado Crush at Van Andel Arena with kickoff slated for noon. Prior to the game, former Super Bowl MVP, Heisman Trophy winner and University of Michigan standout Desmond Howard will be signing autographs for fans and will take part in the coin toss.
Tickets for all 2004 Grand Rapids Rampage home games may be purchased through Tickets PLUS by dialing 616.222.4000, at all Michigan Meijer locations, StarTicketsPlus.com, RampageFootball.com, and at The Zone, located on the west side of Van Andel Arena.
