AFL quick hitters - week one
February 5, 2004 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release
FANS ARE HAVING A BALL: Although it is not officially tracked, a team once lost more than 25 balls to fans as "souvenirs" in one game. The average number of balls into the stands per game is eight. The AFL has played 1,390 games in 17 years... that's approximately 11,120 souvenirs! Better bring your stick'um!
SCORE 81 POINTS AND STILL LOSE? The Grand Rapids Rampage did exactly that when they lost to the Arizona Rattlers 82-81 on April 19, 2003 â the second-highest scoring game in AFL history â 163 points! Grand Rapids' 81 points is the most by a losing team in AFL history.
HEAD OF THE 300-YARD CLUB: New York QB AARON GARCIA tied his League record with nine consecutive 300-yard games in 2003. Garcia has thrown for more than 300 yards in a single game a record-setting 36 times throughout his nine-year AFL career. Dating back to the end of the 2002 regular season, Garcia recorded nine consecutive 300-yard games, a feat that tied his previous record â set in 2000.
