Grand Rapids Rampage News Release
The Grand Rapids Rampage have announced that they have re-signed two of the top young offensive threats in the AFL through the 2006 season. Both entering their second seasons, wide receiver/defensive back Josh Bush and wide receiver/linebacker Anthony Hines along with offensive specialist Chris Jackson are expected to be the starting offensive receivers for the Rampage.
Bush (5.09, 180lbs, Western Michigan) led the Rampage last season in receiving yards (714), while tying for the lead in touchdowns during his rookie season. He set a team-record and tied and AFL-best when he grabbed a 49-yard touchdown reception against Indiana. On defense, Bush finished third on the team in tackles (34.0) and pass breakups (seven). Bush was Western Michigan's Offensive MVP in 2001 and was named to the All-MAC second team.
Hines (5.11, 185lbs, Winston Salem State) was selected by the Rampage with the second overall pick in the Dispersal Draft back in October. Last season with the Indiana Firebirds, he led them in receptions (77), receiving yards (1,060), receiving touchdowns (20) and was second in points scored (122). On defense, he also had 4.5 tackles and an interception in limited playing time as he played offensive specialist, wide receiver/defensive back and wide receiver/linebacker last season with the Firebirds. In 2003, Hines played with the af2 Cape Fear Wildcats and led the team in receptions (114) totaling 1,575 yards.
The Rampage made additional roster moves this week, including the releasing of WR/LB Jeremy Dutcher, kicker Dave Hendrix and defensive specialist Gana Joseph. Grand Rapids claimed former Rampage lineman Jason Gamble off of waivers and signed DS Quincy LeJay. LeJay played with the af2's San Diego Riptide the past two seasons and led them in tackles last season with 82.5, which was good enough for fourth in the league.
Grand Rapids closed training camp this morning after a inter-squad scrimmage. The team will finalize its roster this weekend and begin regular season practices on Monday morning. On Friday, January 28, the Rampage will kick off their eight AFL season when the Arizona Rattlers slither into Van Andel Arena at 7:30pm.
