Crush trade Rusununguko, waive seven others

January 21, 2005 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) - Colorado Crush News Release

DENVER - With the final roster cutdown looming, the Colorado Crush today traded fullback/linebacker Sunungura Rusununguko to the Las Vegas Gladiators in exchange for future considerations. The team also announced that it has waived veteran OL/DL Matt Norwood and rookies QB James MacPherson, FB/LB Dennis Dottin-Carter, WR/DBs Ron Israel, Andre Rone and Lance Taylor and OL/DL Paul White Jr.

The Crush also placed OL/DL Derrick Pickens (high ankle sprain), FB/LB Chad Dukes (strained right groin) and WR/DB Touré Carter (right quadriceps strain) on the injured reserve list. Per league rules, each player will have to miss at least two games.

Rusununguko (6-3, 270, Ball State) had spent his first four seasons under head coach Mike Dailey, playing with the Indiana Firebirds from 2001-03 before following Dailey to Colorado for the 2004 season. Rusununguko appeared in 12 games in 2004, totaling nine tackles, one sack and a fumble recovery. He was inactive for both Crush playoff games.

Norwood (6-2, 300, Middle Tennessee State) signed as a free agent with the Crush this past offseason after playing the last two seasons with the Detroit Fury. His career started with the Carolina Cobras in 2001 and spent 2002 with Dallas before he was traded to Detroit.

The Crush active roster now stands at 25 players and must be cut down to 24 by Monday, January 24 to start the season.
