Grand Rapids Rampage News Release
KENTWOOD - The Grand Rapids Rampage will host a pair of open tryouts next month in an effort to bolster their roster for the team's upcoming 10th Anniversary Season. The Rampage will hold a kickers-only tryout on Oct. 1 in Kentwood, Mich., and a tryout for all other positions Oct. 15 in Beverly Hills, Mich.
The kickers-only tryout will take place from 8 a.m.-11 a.m. (EDT) at The Soccer Spot (3701 32nd St., Kentwood, MI 49512). Cost of the tryout is $60, with tryout-day registration available. The Rampage currently do not have a kicker under contract.
The second open tryout in October will be held near Detroit at Wylie E. Groves High School (20500 West Thirteen Mile Road, Beverly Hills, MI 48025; about 45 minutes from Detroit Metro Airport) from 1 p.m.-4 p.m., with registration beginning at 12 p.m. Registration cost is $70, with positions including quarterback, offensive specialist, defensive specialist, offensive/defensive lineman, wide receiver/linebacker, wide receiver/defensive back and fullback/linebacker to be viewed by the Rampage coaching staff.
Since 2005, the Rampage have signed more players from open tryouts than any other team in the Arena Football League. Ten players have earned AFL contracts from the team's open tryouts over the last two seasons. Most prominent among these 10 players is WR/DB Timon Marshall, who led the AFL in all-purpose yards this past season and was a finalist for the AFL's 2006 Ironman of the Year.
The Rampage can bring 37 players to training camp for the 2007 season and are looking heavily to open tryouts to fill key roster spaces. Many Rampage players and AFL legends have come from open tryouts, including former Rampage WR/DB and ArenaBowl XIX MVP/Ironman Willis Marshall, two-time NFL MVP Kurt Warner, New Orleans Saints All-Pro kick returner Michael Lewis and AFL legend George LaFrance.
Players interested in participating in either camp should contact Andy Lopusnak at (616) 975-7708, ext. 17, or via email at andy@rampagefootball.com.
