Grand Rapids Rampage News Release
GRAND RAPIDS - The Gerald R. Ford Council of the Boy Scouts of America and the Grand Rapids Rampage will host the first annual "City Pavement to Woodland Pathways" golf outing Aug. 31 at the Grand Rapids Country Club. The event, which is open to the public, will help support over 9,000 urban Scouting kids as part of the Boy Scouts of America's Scoutreach program.
Participants will be able to interact with Sparky McEwen, head coach and director of football operations for the Rampage, along with other Rampage personnel. For $100, each golfer will receive the opportunity to take part in a clinic led by PGA professional Tom Leamon, play 18 holes of scramble-format golf and enjoy a picnic-style dinner.
The Boy Scouts of America's Scoutreach program endeavors to grant each young person the opportunity to join Scouting regardless of his circumstances, neighborhood or ethnic background.
Said Michigan state senator Bill Hardiman, co-vice president of Scoutreach, "What an opportunity to play a round of golf, interact with our inner city Scouts and Rampage personnel, see the great programs with a purpose that Scouting teaches, and support our youth."
Tee off for the golf outing is set for 1:00 p.m. EDT. To make reservations, contact the Gerald R. Ford Council at (616) 785-2662 or Chip Emery at demery@bsamail.org.
