Reading Express News Release
Reading, Pa. (November 1, 2011) - The Reading Express continue to build on a position that is crucial in indoor football, adding another versatile wideout to the fray. Express Head Coach Mark Steinmeyer has recently signed Ralph Turner, who excelled at South Alabama. Turner began his collegiate career at Southern Miss, but transferred to South Alabama prior to his junior season.
Turner contributed to South Alabama in receiving yards and rushing yards, as well as on punt returns and kick returns. During an impressive junior season, the Alabama native averaged over 27 yards per kick return. His success in college landed him an opportunity with the AFL's Utah Blaze last season.
"Ralph comes to us having played at the AFL level a year ago," said Steinmeyer. "He has extreme quickness off the ball and is a great route runner creating separation from himself and the defender. This is going to be a highly competitive training camp at the wide receiver position."
The Reading Express are one of the most established franchises in indoor football. In six full seasons, the team has amassed an overall record of 73-27 with five division championships, two conference titles and the 2009 AIFA National Championship. In 2011, Reading began play as a new member of the Indoor Football League and captured the league's Atlantic Division title. The team plays on The Reading Hospital Medical Group Field at Sovereign Center in Reading, Pa.
