FORT MYERS -- Charlotte won the final game at Hammond Stadium between the two teams in the regular season, beating Fort Myers 5-3 on Thursday night as a late Miracle rally fell short.
Fort Myers loaded the bases in the ninth with one out but could only manage one run against Richard de Los Santos, who saved his eighth.
Santos Arias (6-2) turned in a quality start, going eight innings with seven hits and three runs. The right-hander walked none and struck out four, but a lack of offense didn't help his chances for the seventh win.
Alex Cobb (8-5) recorded the victory after giving up two earned runs on five hits in five innings. He walked two and struck out three.
The Miracle held a 2-0 lead after the first couple innings, but Charlotte would plate five unanswered before the mini-rally in the ninth.
The series shifts to Charlotte Sports Park for the final three games of the regular season between the rival clubs. Steve Hirschfeld gets the start. With Thursday's defeat, the Miracle finished 2009 with a 7-3 record at home against Charlotte.
