Rakovsky Earns Clean Sheet as OCSC Play to a Scoreless Draw in Atlanta
May 28, 2022 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Orange County SC News Release
Orange County SC took to the road to face off Atlanta United 2 for their first meeting in club history that ended in a goalless draw at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
Goalkeeper Patrick Rakovsky was called upon early and he was up for the call, with a sprawling save on an Aiden McFadden header in the 17th minute.
The first half was a largely defensive battle, though OCSC still managed to create chances on the attack.
Milan Iloski intercepted a back pass from Noah Cobb and managed to get past keeper Vicente Reyes in the 23rd minute, but was unable to find the back of the net.
Another chance for OCSC came in the 42nd minute as Albi Skendi headed a cross in close to Erick "Cubo" Torres, but he was unable to get a touch on the ball in front of an open net.
Iloski came knocking on the door again in the 44th minute, when he forced a save from the ATL2 keeper Reyes on a shot just outside the six-yard box.
The OCSC defense continued to give ATL2 fits in the second half, as they did not allow a shot on goal in the second half.
The offense continued to create chances, but were unable to capitalize on the opportunities.
Iloski looked to continue his hot run of form with a rocket off a volley from just outside the box that froze Reyes, but went just over the bar.
A penalty shout from OCSC occured in the 75th minute, as Iloski appeared to be taken down in the box.The official did not point to the spot and nothing came from the ensuing scrum in front of the Atlanta goal.
The best chance for OCSC came in the 87th minute courtesy of Daniel A. Pedersen, as he found himself alone in on goal, but put his shot well over the crossbar.
Darwin Matheus looked to put ATL 2 in front in the dying moments of the match, but the goal was called back for offsides.
With the draw, OCSC remains unbeaten in their last five and Rakovsky earns his first clean sheet of the season.
OCSC has a quick turnaround after the Memorial Day Weekend as they head up to the bay to face Oakland Roots SC on Wednesday, June 1. They will return to Championship Soccer Stadium on Saturday, June 4 with kickoff at 6:00pm against New Mexico United, tickets are still available at orangecountysoccer.com/tickets.
