EDINBURG, Texas - Rio Grande Valley F.C (5-7-0) dropped their derby match against San Antonio FC (9-2-0) at H-E-B Park on Saturday night behind comeback effort. Jose Torres and Adolfo Hernandez make club debut on the night.
San Antonio FC opened the scoreboard at the 26th minute as Justin Dhillon found a ball inside the penalty area and shot it into the left side of the goal, 0-1.
Juan David Cabezas equalized the match at the 41st minute as he found a loose ball inside the 18-yard box and sent a hard shot balk to the back of the net, 1-1
Rio Grande closed out the half with nine shots, two on target and won the possession game with 52.7% to slow San Antonio. On the defensive end the Toros had 11 tackles, six interceptions.
Mitchell Taintor gave San Antonio the lead at the 62nd minute as he found a misplayed ball inside the 6-yard box and tapped it in to goal, 1-2.
Jose Gringo Torres made his RGV FC debut at the 63rd minute after a long absence from play. Adolfo Hernandez checked in to the game at the 72nd minute to make his long awaited Toros debut as well.
RGV FC was left with 10 men after Erik Pimentel was given a direct red card at the 77th minute.
Justin Dhillon scored a brace in the match at the 87th minute for the visiting San Antonio side, to make it 1-3.
Duilio Herrera made it 2-3 with a well-placed left footed shot into goal to make it close late at the 93rd minute. The goal marked his first ever professional goal and became the youngest player to score for RGV in the new era.
San Antonio stole the three points from RGV as they claim their second consecutive win in 2022 at H-E-B Park.
RGV F.C hits the road for a single match on Wednesday, June 1st against Atlanta United 2 before returning to H-E-B Park on June 4th to face LA Galaxy 2. For more matchday information, visit www.rgvfc.com.
