Saint John Riptide News Release
(Saint John, NB): The Halifax Rainmen prevailed over the Saint John Mill Rats, 110-104, in a clawfest at Harbour Station.
Last week the Rainmen ran away with a 124-102 win, but the Mill Rats brought much more intensity and fight to this game.
"We battled and gave a strong effort, but we came up short. Give credit to Halifax they are well coached and executing a good game plan," said Mill Rats Head Coach Julian King. "We have a couple new guys that we were working into the mix who just arrived and in takes time to build chemistry."
Saint John did fall behind by 17 points at 39-22 in the second quarter, and were down 54-41 at the half.
In the third quarter they cut the lead down to 77-74 with less than a minute left in the quarter, but Justin Tubbs scored before the buzzer to build a 79-74 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Kenny Jones scored 21, Jabs Newby 16, and Eric Crookshank 15. New acquisition Jamine Peterson scored 12 points in his debut. Tubbs scored 32 points for Halifax.
The Mill Rats fall to 4-7 and the Rainmen improve to 5 -3. Saint John heads to Moncton for a road affair on Friday night at the Moncton Coliseum.
