Rainmen Drop Road Game in Moncton
February 25, 2013 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada)
Halifax Rainmen News Release
On Monday February 25th, the Halifax Rainmen travelled to Moncton to take on the Miracles, in a matchup of Atlantic Conference rivals that was rescheduled from February 10th due to a snow storm. The Miracles beat the Rainmen 99-84, in what was a must-win game for Moncton to keep their playoff hopes alive.
The Rainmen were led in the loss by shooting guard Cedric Moodie who had 18 points off the bench. Forward Akeem Wright added 13, Tyrone Levett had 12 and Joey Haywood had 11.
The Miracles were led by 27 points from the NBL Canada's leading scorer, guard Devin Sweetney who scored 27, along with a monster double-double from centre Isaac Butts, who had 23 points and 20 rebounds for his 15th double-double in 27 games with the Miracles this season. Forward Darrell Wonge also added 22 for the Miracles.
The Rainmen struggled shooting the basketball, as they shot only 35% from the floor and 60% from the free-throw line. They also committed 22 turnovers to the Miracles 15.
The Miracles improved to 19-20 on the season, while the Rainmen fell to 17-17. The Rainmen only have 6 games left in the regular season, and likely need to win at least three of their last 6 games to make the NBLC playoffs.
The Rainmen head on the road to face the Montreal Jazz Friday afternoon at 2 PM EST.
The Rainmen return to the Halifax Metro Centre Saturday March 9th, to take on the Oshawa Power.
