Rainmen Defeat Mill Rats at Halifax Home Opener

(Halifax, NS): The Saint John Mill Rats, presented by Rogers, were defeated by the Halifax Rainmen at the Metro Centre on Saturday evening during their Home Opener with a final score of 105-96.

The Rainmen opened up the game with a basket from Joey Haywood and kept the lead throughout the first quarter, 26-21.

The second quarter, the Mill Rats were able to get their edge and outscore the Rainmen, 31-27. After some strong baskets from Antonio Burks, the Mill Rats pull ahead with 4:26 left before half. The last couple of minutes before half was basket for basket.

Mill Rats Cavell Johnson netted 2 points for the Mill Rats to end the half with the Mill Rats trailing behind the Rainmen by one basket, 53-52. Rainmen's Brandon Robinson played a huge half contributing 17 points of the Rainmen's 53, while Mill Rats Burks added 11 and Jerice Crouch with 9.

The Mill Rats struggled in the third to regain the lead but couldn't pull ahead and ended the third trailing 77-73.

With 8:20 left on the clock in the fourth, the Rainmen were able to pull ahead to a ten point spread. With 45 seconds left in the game, Burks' three pointer brought it to 101-94 but it wasn't enough to narrow the gap, after Joey Haywood answered for the Rainmen.

The Rainmen won the game with a final score of 105-96.

Leading scorers for the Mill Rats were Jerice Crouch with 18 points, Antonio Burks with 16 and PJ Young with 15.

The Rainmen were led by Brandon Robinson with 27 points, Hillary Haley with 17 and Joey Haywood with 15 points. The Rainmen played a huge defensive game with 44 boards, 63 overall.

The Mill Rats travel home and then are on the road again for their next game in Moncton against the Miracles on November 14th at 7pm. Stay tuned to watch the game online!

The Mill Rats are back in action at Harbour Station for a double header on Nov 22nd and 23rd against the Oshawa Power and the Windsor Express. Both games tip off at 7pm.
