September 5, 2010 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Newark Bears News Release

(York, P.A., Sept. 5, 2010) - The Newark Bears defeated the York Revolution 5-3 on Sunday afternoon at Sovereign Bank Stadium in York, Pennsylvania. The Bears earned a 3-1 series win and took the season series 11-9.

The Bears notched a run first for the third time in the series. Brian Barton singled to start the second inning of Kevin Angelle, in his Atlantic League debut, followed two batters later by an Isaiah Kaaihue RBI single to make 1-0 Newark. Tim Raines Jr. extended his league-best hit streak to 18 games with a solo home run over the "Arch Nemesis", the 37 foot, 8 inch tall wall in left field, in the third inning and the lead grew to 2-0.

Former Revolution starter Bob Zimmermann made his first start in his old ballpark and was brilliant. Despite hitting two batters to start the game, Zimmermann allowed just one hit and one more base runner through his first three frames. York timed the Bears starter in the home fourth as James Shanks ripped a single through the right side to bring home Liu Rodriguez to pull within a run. With James Cooper aboard on a walk and a balk, Raines Jr. responded in the visitor's fifth with a two-shot out to left-center to put the Bears back up by two at 4-2.

The Revolution cut into the lead with a run on a Steven Haake sacrifice fly in the sixth inning, but Raines Jr. again put the Bears on the scoreboard with a sacrifice fly in the seventh to score Cooper for the second time. York tried to stage a rally in the home seventh after Zimmermann picked up two of his nine strikeouts to start the inning. Erold Andrus and Joel Collins reached on back-to-back singles and Chuck Jeroloman brought a run home with a RBI double. Scott Grimes drew a walk to load the bases, but Zimmermann got Rodriguez to fly out and end the threat.

Zimermann (2-5, 9-6 overall) earned the win, firing seven strong innings, allowing three runs, two earned, scattering just five hits, with nine strikeouts and a pair of walks. Angelle (0-1) took the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits, while striking out nine and walking two over six and one-third innings. Matt Smith worked a scoreless eighth in relief and Armando Benitez secured his 12th save with a two strikeouts in the ninth.
