
RailCats Set 2015 Opening Day Roster

GARY, IN - The Gary SouthShore RailCats will take 11 pitchers, two catchers, six infielders and four outfielders into its four-game opening weekend series vs. the Quebec les Capitales of the Can-Am League.
The RailCats released five players Tuesday and Wednesday. RHP Charle Rosario, RHP Kevin Sweeney, LHP Chris Squires, OF Nick Howell and IF Caleb Palensky were all let go from Manager Greg Tagert's 2015 squad.
Additionally, Gary added LHP Rene Solis, RHP Kevin Osaki and OF Carlton Salters, reassigned OF Zachary Zdanowicz to the inactive list and signed INF Sam Lind.
Solis, Osaki and Salters had all been left off the roster Tuesday, but made their way back on for the official start of the season.
Lind played last season for the Sioux Falls Canaries of the American Association, but was release this offseason. He will come off the bench for the RailCats to start the season.
RHP Zac Treece will start Thursday on Opening Day. LHP Andy Roberts will start Friday and LHP Chris Cummins on Sunday. Saturday's starter is to be decided.
The RailCats starting infield will consist of returning 'Cats J.D. Pulfer, Ryan Brockett and Zac Mitchell and rookie first baseman Michael Schroeder. Adam Taylor, Jon Jones and Drew Martinez will make up the outfield.
The team doesn't have a single player that qualifies as a "veteran" on its roster to start the season. Fourteen of the 24 men on the roster (including the inactive list) are "rookies," meaning they have less than two years of league service.
LHP Andy Loomis, who will be looked to as the closer to start the season, is the most seasoned player on the squad is. He is one season away from being considered a "veteran."
