Raiders turn up the heat

March 31, 2012 - Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL)
Richmond Raiders News Release

The Richmond Raiders turned up the heat offensively against the Knoxville Nighthawks in Knoxville Saturday night, scoring every time they had the ball, and the defense scored twice on pass intercepts to run the score to 80 for Richmond. Knoxville scored 29.

Richmond quarterback Antwon Young (Villanova) passed 18 times and completed 14, including two touchdown passes to each of three receivers, Antwun Williams, Herb Jones, and Andre Winston for a total of six. Richmond fullback Anthony Silvers scored on two running plays. Wide Receiver Antwun Williams threw a touchdown pass to Herb Jones, and RoShawn Marshall and Maurice Thorne each scored on pass interceptions. Kicker J.C. Stevens also had good night, scoring an uno, a field goal and 11 extra points.

The Nighthawks, on the other hand, never seemed able to get their offense into high gear. Starting quarterback Tony Colston (Catawba) scored on a three yard run but seemed to have difficulty getting his passing on target. He was replaced in the second quarter by Russell Hill (Idaho State), who played the remainder of the game. Hill seem to find his groove in the second half, tossing three touchdown passes, two to Ryan McDaniel and one to Kelvin Thompson.

The game was a rematch of last Saturday's contest in Richmond that the Raiders won 70 to 42, in which The Raiders defense won the night by scoring on three pass interceptions and a fumble recovered in the Nighthawks end zone.
