Raiders Open 2008 With Pre-Season Game Tonight

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Tonight the Rochester Raiders will play their first game as the defending 2007 Continental Indoor Football League champions when they travel to Rockford, IL to face the Rock River Raptors in what could potentially be a preview of the 2008 CIFL Championship. The Raptors, who have made the move from the United Indoor Football League (UIF) to the CIFL this year, are considered one of the teams to beat in the CIFL's Great Lakes Conference. They have proven to be very successful in recent years winning their division in both the 2006 and 2007 seasons in the UIF. This highly anticipated preseason match-up will be streamed live via the Internet at www.espn1380.com beginning at 8:05 eastern time with the pre-game show followed by kickoff at 8:30.
"Even though this is only considered a preseason game we are extremely excited to get back out on the field," commented Raiders co-owner Bob Bartosiewicz "Rock River represents one of the best teams in the UIF in recent years and we represent one of the best teams in the CIFL. It is going to be a great game not only for both teams but the league as well."
The Raiders sent 29 players on the trip to Rockford, some trying to earn a spot on the Raiders 21 man roster. Notable players missing the trip for various reasons were kicker Adam Lanctot, defensive lineman Eddie Bynes and safety JJ Gibson.
The Raiders will kick off their 2008 season March 21 when they visit the Chesapeake Tide and will have their home opener at the Blue Cross Arena the following week March 29 against the Lehigh Valley Outlawz at 2:00pm. Season Tickets are currently on sale at the Blue Cross Arena and through Ticketmaster at a cost of $60 for the entire season, individual tickets are also available at the Blue Cross Arena and Ticketmaster for $15 for adults and $10 for kids 12 and under.
