Richmond Raiders News Release

Facing his old team for the first time, Antwon Young made big plays when he had to in guiding the Columbus Lions to a 42-21 win over the Richmond Raiders. The Raiders' offense could only muster 187 total yards and for the second straight game scored just three points in the first half.

The Raider defense kept the game close for much of the contest. They sacked Young five times and never let him break containment for an effective scramble. They got five first half stops including an interception by Kevin Allen. They nearly recorded a crucial takeaway in the fourth quarter with the team only trailing by seven. But when the fumble eluded three Raiders and was recovered by Jarmon Fortson, the Lions drive continued and ended with a touchdown to make the margin 14. The Raiders never threatened again, as Columbus iced the game with two late interceptions.

The Raiders took an early 3-0 lead on a T.C. Stevens field goal. But after failing to score the rest of the half "" and getting stopped for a safety to start the second half "" the offense needed a spark and backup quarterback Steffen Colon was inserted. He led the team to consecutive touchdowns but threw consecutive interceptions in the final two minutes.

Young was kept off balance for much of the night, as the Raiders gave up only two plays over 15 yards. Devin Jones and Christian Lacey got consistent pressure on Young and forced him to throw the ball away all game long. But Young converted when it counted, cashing in touchdowns on four of five red zone possessions. His favorite target was Jarmon Fortson, who had 53 yards and a touchdown on a game high six catches.

Hakeem Moore made the most of his four receptions, netting 83 yards and two touchdowns. Derrick Hector had a touchdown in his pro indoor debut. Kickers on both sides had their own issues, combining to miss seven field goals and five extra points.

The Raiders will return to action in their home opener at the Richmond Coliseum on Saturday, April 12 in a Championship Game rematch against the Alabama Hammers. Single game and group event tickets are now on sale on the Raiders' website, www.RichmondRaidersProFootball.com, and the Raiders' ticket hotline at 804-780-0430.
