Rochester Rhinos News Release

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Raging Rhinos announced their 2005 USL First Division schedule earlier today. The Rhinos will open their 10th season on the road on Saturday, April 30th against the Vancouver Whitecaps.

The game is the earliest the Rhinos have ever started a regular season. The previous date was May 1, 1999, when Rochester opened up at home against the Minnesota Thunder. The Rhinos have compiled a 4-3-2 all-time record in season opening games.

The Rhinos' home opener is on Saturday, May 7th at Frontier Field against the Puerto Rico Islanders. Last season, the Rhinos took their inaugural season series with the Islanders with a 3-0-0 mark, including a 3-0 win at Frontier Field on May 7, 2004.

One of the key home-and-home series in 2005 features the defending champion Montreal Impact in late May. Rochester hosts the Impact on Saturday, May 21st at 7:35 p.m. The back end of the two-game set is on Sunday, May 29th at Claude-Robillard Stadium. The games are a rematch of the 2004 Eastern Conference Semifinals, won by the Impact 2-0.

Rochester enters 2005 after a fourth-place finish in the Northeast Division and a 15-10-3 record (48 points) in 2004. The Rhinos also made their ninth straight playoff appearance in the team's nine-year history. In nine seasons, the franchise has won three A-League titles (1998, 2000, 2001) and one U.S. Open Cup (1999).

The team will begin the 2005 campaign under the direction of new head coach Laurie Calloway. Calloway was named the second head coach in Rhinos' team history on December 16th. The Rhinos will begin a week of informal training on Monday, March 21st at Total Sports Experience (880 Elmgrove Road). The team's 2005 Training Camp will officially begin on Monday, March 28th at TSE.

The Rochester Raging Rhinos will be featured twice on the United Soccer League's 16-week Fox Soccer Channel broadcast schedule for the 2005 season. The First Division 20-show broadcast package incorporates 16 straight weeks of USL action from June 17th to October 1st.

The Rhinos' first game on Fox Soccer Channel will be on Friday, July 22nd, as Rochester travels to Richmond for an 8:00 p.m. match. The final contest has the Puerto Rico Islanders visiting Rochester on Friday, August 19th for an 8:00 p.m. game.
